it was ill fated from the beginning

here comes the rain again
falling from the stars
drenched in my pain again
becoming who we are

as my memory rests

real life gaston

with so much nowadays awash with concerns over the environment, it is only natural that i lament the latest personal battle over noise pollution. this noise pollution originates from one loud obnoxious acquaintance whose company i must endure from time to time. we shall call him "gaston", as he is not unlike the boorish oaf in disney's beauty and the beast movie.

all boast, but no muscle.

gaston's shtick is easily predictable. it would be amusing if it wasn't so damn annoying. at every social occasion, he saunters in, knuckles dragging on the ground, chest puffed out, and a smirk planted on his bloated face. the guys first engage in harmless banter that one would find amongst any group of friends, but it quickly escalates to emulous one-upmanship by his relentless goading. the neanderthal then proceeds to proclaim his masculinity (akin to a dog peeing on every fire hydrant and bush he sniffs) by challenging his buddies to a drinking competition and various other ridiculous bets to assert his superiority. his close friends are always baited into sinking to his level, despite the certainty that their foolish participation in his circus antics invites disdain and ridicule.
the garbage that spews from his mouth consists often of thinly-disguised cheap barbs at his friends, focusing mainly on their commitment to their girlfriends...i.e. being "whipped" or "whooped." he has the gall of saying them in the presence of their girlfriends, as if we were inanimate objects and they were inside the mens' locker room. not only do i find it disrespectful and insulting, i'm offended by what he perceives to be "funny". there is nothing witty nor clever about them. not even cleverly sardonic? nope. or so outrageous and vulgar that one is shocked in disbelief he said it? nope. nothing but a crude comment by some insecure lout.
occupied by laughing at his own jokes, he fails to register that hardly anyone else is entertained by his dim-witted jokes, especially females. his frat-boy antics are tolerated by other people despite the obvious discomfort it brings. they either choose to ignore it or turn away, cringing in embarassment because his vociferous boasting usually transmits over the entire social area and in full view of strangers/other patrons. most would be resigned to sigh and say, "gaston is gaston" or "boys will be boys." some even say that he's just jealous of the relationships that his friends are in - well, boo f#@&n' hoo - i refuse to have my good conversation and great company ruined by this uncouth male chauvinistic pig. i abhor that he drags his otherwise decent friends down to his level. his brand of "joking" casts a negative pall over any social event.

i am entitled to say what i want - its tiresome to endure several hours of this bozo poke fun at everyone's expense. and he's upset when i tell him to shut the f#$& up?!?! with all that pollution coming from his mouth, he deserves a carbon footprint up his a$$.

random

so this new format connects to your google account, but there must be some bugs to be fixed. whenever i try and post a new entry, it won't allow me to start typing. i have to either recover a post or refresh it or press random buttons to get it to go. sheesh. i don't know if i like this new way of logging in -- it requires the extra step of logging twice. i don't even use my email account when i blog. damn technology.
why is it so difficult to find a good hip hop dance class to attend? my class at the y is currently being taught by a substitute for two months while my instructor recovers from bronchitis. i know she has several jobs, among them being a teacher in the oakland school district. teaching alone requires tremendous energy, but also works at lukas and teaches dance. so when she became sick and didn't recover quickly, she realized that she had to take some serious time off. good for her, but not so good for me...her class was aimed towards beginners, so it wasn't too difficult anyway and i would get bored. but at least taking it and shaking a lil' sum-sum was better than having my ass prints imprinted on the couch watching tv. the sub is cool, but she teaches old school hip-hop, which is cool, but i get tired of that as well. during a weekend i traveled south to attend kristine's 18th birthday, i was able to go to the culture shock dance studio and participate in the cardio hip hop. that format is more my style of learning.

but getting back to the sub, she's not too bad. i actually learned what the names of some dance moves from way back that i never knew had a name. stuff like:

the smurf
the tlc
the doo-wop
hang loose

in addition to all the other moves of our generation: the reebok, roger rabbit, cabbage patch, snake, the humpty, the jiggy or gettin' jiggy, running man, electric slide, butterfly, that cha-cha slide song, two michael jackson moves and the janet jackson shimmy. ahhh....dancing.

get over it!

march 9th is officially (or unofficially) get over it day. the morning show hosts at movin 99.7 announced it during my new commute-that-keeps-getting-longer-n-longer. i had to laugh because it reminded me of my girls...(they know why:P), but really, there are quite a number of things that one needs to get over...especially me.

speaking of my girls...i'm looking forward to costanoa.

22 February 2007

so despite my overweening tirades on the plight of (wo)man's best friends and hurling imprecations on backyard breeders everywhere, i do, on occasion, derogate from such pressing issues of animal welfare and uc compensation and filipina stereotypes and permeate a somewhat roseate view on other matters. what they may be, i have no clue. :)

more later.

more stats

sometimes i look at chewy and wonder what his personality was like when he was a young pup. it would have been nice to see the little tyke grow up. sometimes i ponder whether if he had pups, if his offspring would harbor similar personality traits and would resemble my handsome furry son. unfortunately i adopted him at 2 years of age and he is neutered, so i have no sense of his history or hope for his lineage. unfortunate, indeed.

not quite. see, this is the same kind of thinking that compels people to give in and breed their beloved pet. "just one litter," they promise, because sparky/princess/spike is just soooo cute, right? wrong. i love my chewy, but while i experience pangs of what could have been, i think of the irreparable harm such thoughts may lead if i was a pet guardian with an un-fixed pet. when i walk him, he gets the most generous of all compliments: "what a gorgeous dog!", "what a perfect dog!', but i think of all the dogs that look like him that remain in shelters and rescue organizations. check petfinder.com on any given day and you can find at least 6 dogs who have similar, if not spot-on, features as chewy, in addtion to all the various other pomeranian or spitz mixes. not to mention all the people who think their purebred dog should be bred because its purebred -
quit fucking around with the breed- that's why there are all these dogs that almost resemble purebred dogs but they look "off." because of your inexperienced and untrained eye, we have dogs that are basically mutts. see #6. unless you're showing the dog at westminster, you shouldn't be "dabbling" with the breed. it gets ruined.

10 Reason why you should Spay and Neuter your Animal Companions:

1. Every day 70,000 puppies and kittens are born in this country while only 10,000 people are born.

2. It's simple math - there just arent enough homes for all of these animals.

3. Every year 10-12 million animals are euthanized in shelters for lack of available homes.

4. On average, 64% of all animals taken into shelters nationwide have to be euthanized for this reason.

5. At least 50% of the overpopulation problem is non-neutered males. Females cant do it alone.

6. Purebreds account for 30% of all the animals in shelters. "Papers" dont mean an animal should be bred.

7. For every home you find for an animal that you have bred, a home is lost for a shelter animal.

8. Breeding to "see the miracle of birth" demands that you also "see the tragic results". Visit a shelter.

9. Animal overpopulation has reached a crisis point in this country.

10. You personally can make a difference by spaying or neutering your pet. It is the single most important thing you can do to prevent animal cruelty!

what i carry...

with me is nostalgia. several heavy boxes of nostalgia, that is - that i now must repack and load up into my kitty cat for a journey down the road. a resettlement into grander lodgings, if you must. i like to reflect on the good ol' days, but these reminders...it's as if they're an anchor and i'm some hapless mob snitch about to take a swim with the fishes. surely i'm a glutton for punishment, as i took a moment to reread some old journal entries. with some regret, reliving some of my thoughts have been painfully amusing as i cringe with both astonishment, laughter, anger and shame at some of my melodramatic thought processes as a gawky teenager and later, a naive college student. a lot of the events or things i did that i recorded in my journal i don't recall even happening, but i was a more prolific and copious writer back then. there was this guy i had a huge crush on but i don't recall ever talking to him. (well, i talked to him once over the phone, but it was excruciatingly lame). but according to my entries, i saw him several times and my sis even invited him to either my 16th or 17th birthday party, to which i wrote how he declined but later on apologized for not going. i don't remember this! i just thought he was impartial and indifferent to my existence , but he actually may have known my name, which was probably, cynthia's sister.

maybe i shouldn't take that trip down memory lane.

sonnet 57

Being your slave, what should I do but tend
Upon the hours and times of your desire?
I have no precious time at all to spend,
Nor services to do, till you require.
Nor dare I chide the world-without-end hour
Whilst I, my sovereign, watch the clock for you,
Nor think the bitterness of absence sour
When you have bid your servant once adieu;
Nor dare I question with my jealous thought
Where you may be, or your affairs suppose,
But, like a sad slave, stay and think of nought
Save, where you are how happy you make those.
So true a fool is love that in your will,
Though you do any thing, he thinks no ill.

i found it!

an epiphany at last! it's just too perfect!

10 January 2007

gwynn is g-g-gr-r-r-e-a-t-t!

bigs up to tony gwynn. this hometown hero was elected yesterday to the hall of fame, being selected on 532 out of 545 ballots, 97.7 percent. whoo-hoo! you'll find him in cooperstown on july 29, 2007, alongside cal ripken, jr. both guys played their entire mlb career with only one team, gwynn with the san diego padres and ripken with the baltimore orioles! both were also elected on their first year of eligibility. congrats! i remember watching the padres play when i was but a mere child. my grandmother and i would watch all the so-cal teams play. i was a big fan of the national league. nowadays i prefer the american league, but with all the eye candy leaving the american league (i.e. mark mulder), what's a girl to do?!

some highlights of tony's career: (taken from wikipedia)
  • 8-time nl batting champion (1984, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1994, 1995, 1996, & 1997), tying him with honus wagner.
  • 5 gold glove awards
  • retired in 2001 with 3,141 hits and a lifetime batting average of .338. ( the only time he batted below .300 was in 1982, when he batted .289).
  • spokesperson for jerome's furniture store...lol

food for thought

for lunch i pledge to dine on a nissin cup noodle in honor of momofuku ando, the japanese inventor of instant noodles . he died from a heart attack on friday, january 5. he was 96.

[excerpt from yahoo news] Born in Taiwan, Ando founded his company in 1948 from a humble family operation. Faced with food shortages in post-World War II Japan, Ando thought a quality, convenient noodle product would help feed the masses.

In 1958, his "Chicken Ramen" — the first instant noodle — was introduced after many trials. Following its success, the company added other products, such as the "Cup Noodle" in 1971.

he whose brilliance warmed the stomachs of many a struggling college student lacking funds or a dormitory meal plan. with some change, hot water or a microwave, and a plastic fork (all of which one can borrow or acquire from a convenience store), anyone can feast instantly on the salty noodles. to make it even more filling, eat it with rice or bread. rip, mr. ando.

other misc: dottie's chocolate chip french toast with toasted pecans and maple syrup is a temptation all too easy to surrender to.

qtip and cash ace their health exam. all systems a go!

the crazy rabbit lady

cash and qtip had their annual exams today. dr. kim should be calling me back within the next day or so to notify me of their blood test results. I snuck them into my office, where they will serve as my office assistants for the day. thankfully it appears that none of my coworkers are severely allergic to rabbits, so they are quietly keeping me company in my cube. after the initial oohs and aahs over how gosh darn cute cash is, i was asked how many bunnies i have now. which lead me to amuse myself with a little peek into the future:

scenario: chris bemoans the fate of his first true love

it is the year 2042 and chris is enjoying the day with his grandchild chris torres III. as they sat watching the evening news, little chris asks his gramps, "grandpa, isn't that story about the old lady who lives down the street with lots of rabbits?"

"why yes it is. "
"my friends at school call her old maid ona. is that her name?"
"no, little chris. her name is rowena. she's an animal hoarder."
"a what?! grandpa just said a bad word!" the little boy exclaimed.
"no i didn't. i didn't say whore, chris. i said hoar-der. that's a person who has too many pets."
"ok, that's good, 'cuz aidan's dad said she was your girlfriend before you met grandma. that would be soooo gross if she was a whore!"
"don't say that. that old lady was quite a stunner back when i knew her. so many guys would flock to her, but she finally gave me a chance after i begged her so many times."
"so what happened?"
"well, she just kept on getting bunnies. she had one bunny, this white bunny named qtip. then she got another named cash. then some more, patch and kayla. and before you knew it, we had a whole warren! she even had this dog. this super-adorable dog named chewy and even he got overwhelmed by so many bunnies. it got so bad i'd dream of rabbits. i had to leave."
"so then you met grandma and you fell in love?"
"well, not quite. n
o one was as hot as rowena. she was the best damn thing that happened in my life. in fact, i'd up and leave your grandma right now if i had only gotten a pre-nup. but don't tell your grandma that. or your mom and dad either."

pelosi is in da hizouse...

big ups to nancy pelosi...today she officially became the first woman speaker of the u.s. house of representatives, as well as the first californian and first san franciscan to become speaker of the 435 member house. third-in-command, baby!

"this is an historic moment, for the congress, and for the women of this country," she[nancy pelosi] was to tell her colleagues. "it is a moment for which we have waited more than 200 years. never losing faith, we waited through the many years of struggle to achieve our rights." - sfgate.com

yeah! as a woman, as a californian, as a catholic, and as a bay area resident, i'm proud that she is representing me.

02 January 2007

the primroses were over.

and so it begins. a new year, a new chapter. in 2006 i leave behind a somewhat bittersweet end to so many things. a few highs, so many lulls, and some disappointing lows. the skin has thickened and now it has shedded.
the artist in me must graciously thank miss tumalad (thank her lucky stars) for inspiring me to create again. and since i have chosen a most unconventional manner in which to display my drawing, some have seen it as defacing the most precious of all surfaces. i would have to disagree - the action has actually rejuvenated this empty creative well, prompting this surge to action. what quietly lay dormant in my dreams, heart, and thoughts have been revisited for more definitive action.

happy anniversary to my hunny-bunny. :)
